Live music is a great tool for relieving stress

Music is an integral part of our existence as it is able to deliver a special aesthetic pleasure that can survive only in the people and unusual animals. However, this choice dramatically reduces the level of stress hormones.

Positive effect nice melodic music to health has been discovered by psychologists and psychiatrists for a long time. Music therapy in its current form appeared before the Second world war and was used not only to treat patients suffering from depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental disease, and gastric ulcer, asthma, tuberculosis and also for anesthesia.
But British scientists from the Centre for applied Sciences (Centre for Performance Science in the UK) objectively proved that attending classical music concerts has a very beneficial effect on the human body.

They are invited to participate in the study, 117 volunteers of different age and sex. For purity of experiment it involved how frequent the concert halls, conservatoires and Philharmonics, attending over 100 concerts throughout the year, and those who listened” live music 1-2 times a year.

Also among the participants were professional musicians, and people who music never studied.

All participants within a few days listened to 2 concerts for Symphony orchestra, written by the famous American composer Eric Whitacre (Eric Whitacre), who works in the genre of classical music.

Before each concert, and 60 minutes after its completion all the participants of the study selected images of saliva for analysis of hormone levels.

Scientists found that after listening to music in all subjects was observed a significant decrease in the concentration of the stress hormones cortisol and cortisone. The level of other hormones remained unchanged.

Persistent increase in cortisol and its closest “relative” of cortisone can lead to the deterioration of the immune system, the development of obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and other unpleasant consequences for the organism.

“We also found that attending a live music concert is much more pronounced decrease in the stress hormone than that which occurs when listening to music in the recording”, – said the head of this research Professor Fancort Daisy (Daisy Fancourt).
